After Vietnamese troops invaded Cambodia, there was little interest in addressing the crimes of the Khmer Rouge. China, as well as the United States and its allies rejected the forced regime change. Not until the peace negotiations in the early 1990s did more authors turn their attention to Pol Pot’s system of rule. Today, its criminal prosecution is the main focus of study.
